Sprint has recently released a Palm Pre print ad directed toward iPhone users whose contracts with AT&T will soon expire. At first glance one would think this ad makes sense. The eaten apple is pretty funny symbolism if you think about it. But something’s not right. If I have an iPhone, my contract is up with AT&T and I am not satisfied with AT&T’s service, why wouldn’t I just take my phone to another GSM network (read T-Mobile)? Why would I buy another phone and enter another contract? At that why would I choose as a replacement a phone that can only work on one CDMA network?
I know of several people currently using iPhones on T-Mobile though there is some debate about the data speeds with the iPhone 3G. Some would say they are getting a better customer service experience from T-Mobile. The other option I know many are waiting for is Verizon, which is in the process of rolling out LTE technology which would support iPhones.
Would you trade in your iPhone for a Palm Pre? If you are unhappy with AT&T, would you switch to Sprint? Or do you have another plan?

1In my opinion these phone companies are really making a ton of money off of people who think that their 6 month old shiny and pretty advanced piece of equipment is old, unreliable and has options that are from the Stone Age. ANYONE should be leery of brand new equipment and marketing that involves getting on the bandwagon to shell out hundreds of dollars for something that you can break easily and will marketed toward again in a few months to get something new.
Right now I have Verizon and a Blackberry – it does exceedingly more than I really need it to do and yes its cool. Obviously I cannot speak for the iPhone crowd but all I can say is to be hesitant (like you are Kenya) to switch providers because of something new. Look at the fine print and figure out if you will be really saving money.
