“Creating Technology For Social Good” is the focus for this year’s Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing taking place September 30 through October 3, 2009 in Tucson, Arizona. The theme recognizes the significant role women play in defining technology used to solve social issues. Megan Smith, Vice President, New Business Development, Google, and General Manager, Google.org and Fran Berman, Professor in the UCSD Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the first holder of the High Performance Computing Endowed Chair in the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD will be keynote speakers.
Past Grace Hopper Celebrations have resulted in collaborative proposals, networking, mentoring, and increased visibility for the contributions of women in computing.
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is presented by the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology and the Association for Computing Machinery.
